The second instalment in the Rouska saga. After the failure of Rouska Records Richard channels his energies into PANIC, a free Yorkshire magazine which at its height is a corporate success story. Realising his mistake Richard transforms it into the weirdest, solatious, anti-corporate, anti-everything alternative music n'listings mag there has ever been. This is that story, 66 issues, 1993-2000.
Thrown in for good measure Richard's continued dalliance with building a recording empire; time spent as one half of the dysfunctional Selwyn And Dick comedy duo; servant of Blair's New Labour beast and Head of Marketing at the world famous City Varieties Music Hall. Anecdotes too rich to miss. Rare pictures and insights to boot!

SURELY THERE’S GOT TO BE A BETTER WAY! HASN’T THERE?
Richard Rouska woke up early one morning, just as the sun was rising and decided enough was enough. Mr. Rouska hadn’t the legs, notoriety or the bank balance to follow in Russell Brand’s footsteps... but was determined to have his say anyway.
Going Underground is a skinny dip into the pools of possibilities. It is also a brutal attack on Kapitalism, Konsumerism and the Elite Kunts who shepherd our lives.
This book is not about where to stick the X. Going Underground is devoid of party political bullshit and cuts right to the heart of the true value of our lives.

The best bits from The Black Book and Carrion.
The story of a scene that was a law unto itself.
Sisters Of Mercy, Gang Of Four, Mekons, Soft Cell, March Violets, Delta 5, Age Of Chance, Utah Saints, The Three Johns, The Wedding Present and perhaps The Cassandra Complex you will have heard of....but The Jazz Hipsters, Jeremy 'League Of Gentlemen's Flowers For Agatha, The Sinister Cleaners, Third Circle, The Buttercookies and so so so many more? Well, the great and the small are here!
In the early eighties someone said that Leeds had more bands per head of population than New Orleans...and that's a lot. I said it was John Peel, Jez 'Utah Saints' Willis said it was John Peel (only cos he'd heard me say so) ... but it was me...spinning the myth that Leeds was a 'happening' scene' ...which it was but was it an exagerration to say that during 77-87 or parts thereof Leeds had one of the most proactive scenes in the UK? I'd say that was pretty accurate (but I would) and I'd add that the quality n'number of bands creating a cacophony of chaos nowhere in the UK has seen the like of then or...since...even in Leeds!
Read here and opnly here the insights, rare interviews, anecdotes, tales of the unexpected and a "where are they now" perspective. Cultural history perspectives were never this much fun or indeed so solacious.
